Rim BrakesThe first thing to do is inspect your cables, housing, calipers, levers, and brake pads for signs of rust, fraying, corrosion, wear, or something unusual. Next, turn in all adjusters including at the lever and caliper. Depending on how old the bike is and in what condition it is in, you want to lubricate the pivot points including at the lever and at the caliper. Align the brake pads so that the pad hits the rim perpendicular on the braking track. Check for collision of the pads to the tire. Lastly, adjust the cable at the caliper taking up some of the slack and check for lever feel. Lever pull is operator preference. Disc Brakes
